2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1

The Ford Performance Group certificate that accompanies the car confirms it as serial #1543 of the 9,652 Mach 1s built for 2003, and one of just 814 finished in Oxford White. It was assembled at Dearborn Assembly Plant on January 28, 2003.

Ford revived the Mach 1 name for 2003 as a two-year send-off for the New Edge Mustang, and it was never a stripes-and-badges package. The engine is the 4.6-litre, 32-valve DOHC V8 from the Cobra family, tuned here for 305 hp and 320 lb-ft with a naturally aspirated intake and a functional Shaker scoop that rises through the hood and moves with the engine. Behind it is the Tremec TR-3650 five-speed manual, feeding a 3.55:1 limited-slip rear axle. Ford lowered the car roughly half an inch, fitted 17-inch Heritage wheels in the Magnum 500 style, 13-inch front discs, a chin spoiler and the rear deck spoiler, and finished it with the side stripes and rear-panel lettering that reference the original 1969 car.

Inside, the retro cues continue: Comfortweave-pattern leather seats, the chrome-ringed gauge cluster with its 1960s typeface, and aluminum pedals. It was the quickest naturally aspirated Mustang of its generation, and because production ended after 2004, clean examples have become one of the more collectible late-model Mustangs short of a Cobra.

This example, photographed in autumn sun, wears its original Oxford White paint with intact Mach 1 stripes, the factory Heritage wheels, and an unmodified Shaker intake under the hood. The black leather interior shows the correct Comfortweave inserts front and rear. The odometer reads 63,136 miles as photographed, a little over 2,700 miles a year across the car's life, and the seller reports three or more owners.
