1983 Porsche 911 SC 2D Cabriolet

Its 3.0-liter flat-six became legendary for its robustness, while the Type 915 five-speed manual delivered the analog engagement that defines the air-cooled experience. By the early 1980s, the 911SC had earned a reputation as the car that saved the 911 platform proving that the model still had a future at a time when Porsche considered discontinuing it...This 1983 model year holds special significance: it marked the first time since the 1960s that Porsche reintroduced a full convertible to the 911 lineup. The 911SC Cabriolet was more than just an open-top version, it represented a shift toward lifestyle-oriented performance and top-down driving. With its reinforced chassis, improved weather sealing, and classic air-cooled soundtrack, the SC Cabriolet became an instant icon. Collectors value it today not only as the debut of the modern 911 convertible, but also as the final year of SC production, making 1983 examples especially desirable.

This 1983 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet is a US delivered example differentiated from the EU examples with their amber taillights and enlarged rear bumperettes. Out of the estimated total 4,124 examples made for this one-off year cabriolet, there were only 1,718 US models. Painted in classic Guards Red paired with a black soft top over a black leather interior with sport seats, this air-cooled 911 in open-top form is regarded as the most refined year of the Super Carrera. Complemented by a front lip spoiler, integrated fog lights, headlight washers, a power antenna, and staggered 16-inch forged Fuchs alloy wheels, the car presents the quintessential blend of classic 911 sportiness with everyday usability.

Amenities such as air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and a JVC CD stereo add comfort for longer drives, while the sport seats provide the support expected from an SC. At over 82,000+ miles, the interior shows honest signs of use, including dashboard warping and wear on the driver's seat, consistent with a car that has been enjoyed rather than stored away. The 3.0-liter flat-six uses Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and delivers a smooth, torquey powerband; factory-rated at 172 horsepower and 189 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle that is mechanical, responsive, and authentically air-cooled.

This final-year SC convertible remains such a desirable entry into classic Porsche ownership.
